czerny op 849 n 26
on: November 13, 2015, 11:53:54 AM
Hi there,

Been working on this one for 6 weeks already. Although I think this is the best etude of the whole opus, it is also the hardest i had so far!

Still working on more evenness and dynamics...

What do you think?

Ah the Czerny studies.

How are you finding them have you done any other OP's?

I would be interested on your thoughts on them they offer all of them online for free and I've been particularly interested in the studies of left hand and velocity.

Have you found these studies have helped you - I believe they're tailored towards improving piano mechanics?

I haven't got headphones but i'll let you know my thoughts on the performance this evening.

Quick initial impressions: it's rhythmic and sounds tidy. It needs more sparkle and phrasing though. I would suggest: a) more differentiation within the left hand between strong and weak beats b) right hand (I don't have a score) should presumably be lighter and/or more staccato? Are you changing fingers on the repeated notes? If not, that might help (though it will be harder at first).

No this is the first and only opus i've worked on. I think this is the 10th piece i'm doing

Not gonna lie, I have no clue, as I am a beginner my teacher gave this to me but my best guess is that it develops evenness. But yes i am finding that it really helps in other pieces. I can feel more and more strength in my fingers each day.

Thank you ronde_des_sylphes,

yes that left hand should be better indeed. About the right hand, the aim of this study is indeed to play staccato with different fingers. I will try to make it more sparklier!

cheers

You chose a nice piece to play. Good job! It is already pretty good, it just needs more confidence and sparkle - I think @ronde hit the nail on the head.
It is normal that when you practice a piece a lot it gets worse at times to become better in a day or two. Such drawbacks are not to worry about because they are normal and just part of practice progress.

Hey Kawai_cs, thanks for your comment.

I recorded the update a few days ago and haven't touched the piece in the meantime because I was so frustrated with it... just now was the first time that I played it again since, and indeed it is better than before!

Hello Mr. Dean De Block,

Thank you for introducing me to this piece.  I thought your playing sounded fine.  But then again I'm just an amateur probably at or below your level.  Some Czerny I don't like - and I've read posts here saying one should avoid Czerny altogether and play `real repertoire' instead - but this Czerny piece to me is quite interesting and enjoyable.  I may try to play this one myself.

Richard
