bloody hell!  you think it sounds easy??

LOL Donjuan that's one of my favorite expressions.  ;D
Okay, I'm a girl and if you wanted to impress me well La Campanella would do fine... FI gets really old after you've listened to it 4 or 5 times.
What about that Rach prelude- the c minor one? the da daaa, daaaa. da da da DA da DA da DA da da da DA da da da DA and then goes onto dadadada dadadada da da da da da dada da dada and so on. I think it's in C minor. Not for sure, actually. :-\
Or what about Mozart's A (minor? major? why can't I remember these things today?) sonata? It is uber gorgeous. The F major one is really gorgeous, too (I'm learning it right now. ;))
Or what about Ravel's Tocatta from Le Tombeau de Couperin? Or is that too hard (I know it is for me, sob)
Maybe a Chopin Waltz/Nocturne?

no piece in the entire piano repertoir matches the fan-imp.
but try mendelssohn prelude in E minor from his 6 preludes and fuges  or his B minor prelude from his 3 preludes, they'r  VERY impressive.

In looking for a piece to impress a girl, I earnestly vote for the Liszt's transcription of  Isolde's Liebestod. It's a highly erotic piece, very descriptive about the passionated moments during a lovers' intimate encounter. Of course, the lady doesn't need to know the true history behind the music (or perhaps does it, who knows...)

(Indeed I have now an idea for starting a new thread...hmmmm ;), look under Repertoire).

Second place is for the Adagio of the Chopin's 2nd Concerto. It's a gorgeous declaration of love, and it seems to me miraculous as Chopin achieves that the piano continuously recitates tender words of love that one doesn't want to stop of hearing. If a woman doesn't feel it, is void of blood in her veins.

Arthur Rubinstein is quoted saying that he didn't know better seducer than Chopin's music. So, I agree that some Nocturnes could be irresistible.

Sekoul.  You are sweet to try and impress your girl.  Regardless of what music she thinks is worthy of her attention, your talents will not doubt impress many girls in your years to come.  Chin up.  :)

As a girl who would love to be serenaded to on piano by a guy, I would melt at the following:

Chopin's Barcarolle
Liszt's Libestraum
Schumann's Arabesque

I once was quite lucky with Satie's Gymnopedie No.1 ;D

Do not forget the 18th variation!

I personally melt away when my girlfriend plays the slow portion of Chopin's Scherzo No.1. But then, she bangs out those chords at the end, and I'll wake up again. Yes, guys can melt too :P

try the tranquilio passage of Andante Spianato Et Grande Polonaise Brillante In E Flat from chopin.  However, this part sounds beautiful not technically difficult.
By the way, i'd be surprised if any teenager could play the Allegro Molt section of the polonaise...

Why don't you just go for something simple, yet heart breakingly beautiful?
A Chopin nocturn, or Tschaikowsky's October?
Better yet, why are you trying to impress someone by learning a piece of music, you are setting yourself up for failure.
If the girl likes you she will come to you naturally, you wouldn't have to do anything different than just be you, in order to impress her.

If you're trying to impress a girl but aren't at an extremely high level, then I recommend Liszt's Un Sospiro.  It's a very romantic piece.  If it has to be Chopin, and if you are looking for a serious challenge, then try either the Scherzo Op. 20, or better yet, Ballad No. 4.

Well... if the girl in question really likes the Fantasy Impromptu, why don't you just play her that?  You should be able to play it better than that other guy anyway if you played it years ago.

You know, you could say:
"So I heard you really like the Fantasy Impromptu.... well, let me give you an idea of what it's really supposed to sound like!"

Trust me on this, if you want the girl, it's not about what you like...it's about SHE likes. :)  So play her a Fantasie Impromptu that will knock her clothes...er I mean socks off.

This is definitely along the right track.

What they say is very true... it is not so much what one plays, but rather how one plays it  ;) ;D.  I swoon when I can feel the man communicating with me directly... through the music.  It really doesn't matter what it is that is being played (although this can enhance things), if it touches me just right.  Common sense really.     I am definitely a hand watcher, all women should be if they are not  ;).  There are many things that can be done.  So... go... go and swoon her!

I know it's a tough decision, but if you want the girl, you'll have to play the fantasy impromptu for her.  If it makes you feel any better, I always have to play christmas music I don't like for my family.

Try a Liszt transcription of Schubert's Ständchen from Schwanengesang. It is truly one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard.

omg i really feel like being swooned by some pianist right now- right who wants to come play for me?!!!

I'll swoon you...

Yes,
it's Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum from the suite Children's Corner.
But in fact the tempo is moderate. ( Moderement anime).
I need nearly 3 minutes to play it.
But it's wonderful.
I like it very much.

Don’t you think it all depends how readily your girl friend swoons?  You really must take note of her character and decide what turns her on.  Also, what has the other guy got that you haven’t? Are you sure it’s his playing that she goes for or his classic profile?

If it’s the sight of you sitting at the piano with bleeding hands that she can tend lovingly with ointments and bandages, try some pieces with double glissandi in them:- Ravel’s Alborado, or glissandi on the black keys:- the third movement of Prokofieff’s 2nd Piano Concerto.

Or she might prefer to see you sweating after a vigorous round with Rachmaninoff’s G minor Prelude, perspiration poring from your manly brow.
.
Maybe she would look on you as a hero if you played her the loud, stirring chords on the first page of the 2nd mvt. of the Fantasie in C of Schumann.

However, one of your correspondents had the idea she might just go for sugar and sentiment.  If that is so, the middle section of the Fantasie Impromptu should satisfy her, or the Trio of the Funeral March.

A good piece for emotional turbulence, which is romantic and quite easy, is Schumann’s Intermezzo, from Carnival Jest from Vienna - which has been mentioned earlier.

Give her melodrama.  Play one of the Chopin Nocturnes and, at the climactic point, bite down on one of those blood capsules they use in films.  Then - you are the miserable composer dying of consumption, and she will drag you to her breast and love you for ever (at least, until you die.)

Don’t dare to do any of the Chopin Studies, especially No’s 1 and 4 or the Winter Winds.  Don’t attempt La Campanella.  You will come a cropper, as I did when I was about ten and fell off my bike in front of a girl I was trying to impress. It’s a searing memory.

Don’t forget, non-pianists just don’t know what is difficult, so don’t waste too much time and energy trying to impress.  Appeal to the heart.  How about ;) :D the ravishing Chopin Barcarolle?

Op 23 no 7 is perfect.....it is absolutely beautiful, with a fast flurry of notes in the left hand while the right hand crosses over (this is impressive to any girl) the left to play melodies and such.

Yeah, piano's a major part of my life too... well in my case, it's struggling to be one of the best in the school, and then suddenly a new student in your year comes along and plays the Mephisto Waltz at the first recital of the year...

Maybe you should play a piece that isn't necessarily challenging but it's really musical.  I remember last year I played the Chopin Nocturne 20a, and it actually was really good.  Find out what sort of piece that she'd like.  If she knows music well, you could go for a more sophisticated piece, but if she doesnt, then find a piece that has a simple melody, quite like the nocturne i mentioned above.

i have the technique to play something harder... so since the whole point ( or half of it at least ) is impressing sum1.. i feel like i should use the technique and chanel it into something difficult and not just romantic... either way that's kinda contradictory to wut im doin lol.. cuz im learning liebestraum 3 which isnt all that hard...

Sekoul, I think you're spending too much time (more than two weeks now!) wondering what piece to play in order to regain the full attention of your girlfriend.  She's not going to dump you just because some guy played the Fantasie Impromptu for her.  If she does, then she's not worthy of you.  You would hope she likes you not just for your piano playing.  What you need to do is pay more attention to her.  Take her to the movies tonight instead of staying home and practising the piece you want to impress her with.
