Pieces for picking up women
on: December 25, 2015, 05:04:04 PM
Hi,

I wanna use those public pianos in train stations and stuff to attract women to pick up but i need pieces, like Liszt's Liebestraum for example, to play. I want pieces that display technical skill as well as a certain romantic beauty.

For reference on my skill level, the pieces I'm currently working on are Mozart's sonata 8 in A Minor mvt 1, Saint Saens' Aquarium, and Lizst's Leibestruam 3. However, I'm improving pretty quickly so if you know of any pieces above my level, say them anyway.

Thanks for any help you can give,

 - Valse sentimentale - Tchaikovsky

 - Rachmaninoff etude tableaux op. 33 nº4 ( This might be hard, I dont know if you're able to play it )

 - Sugar plum fairy - Tchaikovsky

 - Mendelssohn: Etude in F minor

 - Chopin : Nocturne op 48 nº1

Etude op 10 nº 3 (Tristesse)

Thanks, those are all wonderful pieces, but I'm looking for something a little different. That's my fault for not explaining myself properly.

I'm looking for something with a sort of passionate flare and intensity; something that demands one's attention, but is still beautiful. Like the middle section of leibestraum.

The Tristesse is good for what I'm looking for though, but maybe a little less angry.

Romantic beauty is outdated...If  you really want to get some, go for Scriabin ;)

I've played a few easy sonatinas for sightreading practice and I learned his pretty af Canon in D Minor a while ago, but I'm mostly ignorant of Scriabin. Which pieces specifically should i check out?

Haha great topic.
Interesting you find 10-3 etude emotionally angry in the middle. I find it tumultuous but still in a quirky but elated emotional state.
Anyways to your question.

I would say Liszt consolation 3 or whichever is the slow famous one.
Sounds technical enough but easy to learn and whip out sounds very romantic.

Debussy ballade is a good one. Love the melody it is very moving in a sentimental way.

Oh and I'm sure you already know and it is just a topic title im sure.

None of these pieces will let you 'pick up' any savvy lady these days I'm sure but it will open the door to talk to them at least.  ;D

LOL I find it funny that you had to clarify that last part, but yeah, i just figure that women will be more receptive to being spoken to if I play first (cause y'know, dhv). My expectation is to get up from playing, turn around, and have a group of girls (30, at least) staring in awe. It'll be like a lynx advert.

Hahaha I'm not sure if I understand what's what do you want...but anyway if you're going for Scriabin, he has got some beautiful pieces. But I dont think that those pieces "fit" to your description :

 - Scriabin Etude op. 8 nº12. ( But if you said that Tristesse was "angry", then dont even listen to this haha )

I dont think that scriabin match to your description of "beauty"...maybe some of his preludes but...:p

Let me give a new try according to what you said :

- Liszt - Consolation No. 3, S. 172

- Rachmaninoff - Morceaux of fantaise - Elegie

- Rachmaninoff - Kreisler - Liebesleid ( Love's sorrow ) ( I think that this piece is catching and beautiful at the same time, I once heard it in a public piano at a hotel and everyone was haunted by it haha, rachmaninoff <3333 )

My last try ! :p

I like the Scriabin, that could definitely work. On a side note, for some reason, I always thought Scriabin was a baroque composer.

A good one I just thought of is the Pas De Deux from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker

;D

The sonatas are a bit too much, but look at his preludes. They sound impressive, modernish and mysterious. The girls will be all over you :)

Could try one of the easier chopin etudes, like op 25 no 7 or op 10 no 3

Go for Chopin's Scherzo No. 3!
It's flashy, but has a lot of beautiful moments (i.e the ornaments in the second theme) and has an INCREDIBLE flashy, beautiful, strong ending that'll leave them staring in awe just like you want ;) ;)

Well, I think that Chopin's Scherzo no. 3 opus 39 it's too hard for him ( taking as reference the pieces he's playing ). This is the hardest scherzo, very complex; it requires a lot of technique, power and finger dexterity...This is Liszt's level haha   ;)

How vain. I'll play along -

You're better off picking up women with a guitar and a microphone these days. Pretty sad.

Bortkiewicz Etude Op 15 no 8

"Bortkiewicz's lifelong friend, Hugo van Dalen, the Dutch pianist and composer (1888-1967) told him that it was through his playing of the Etude Op. 15, No. 8 that he had met his wife. She liked the piece so much that she came up to van Dalen to ask the composer's name. This acquaintance led to their marriage, as a result of which Bortkiewicz unofficially named this etude the Verlobungsetude or Betrothal etude."

According to Rubinstein, Chopin Nocturnes ;D

I think he's wrong, though. You really ought to play Medtner for them.

Powerful, romantic in both senses of the word, you'll have women all over you.

I'm sort of a music minded john snow. Playing stuff like that always worked for me, but I'm mostly oblivious and perhaps I succeed(ed) on good looks and charm despite the nonsense I spew at the keyboard

I have no idea who that is...

But of course if you are gorgeous enough you can play Sorabji and they'd still be all over you  ;)

Where might that leave Donna Amato, who does indeed play that composer?...

Play lots of Rachmaninov and Sorabji to strengthen your muscles, then, depending on her weight, you should readily be able to pick her up.

Streets and stations are generally noisy?  Probably OP should go for pieces that are sonorous and catchy, e.g. Grainger In Dahomey (Cakewalk Smasher), Beethoven-Liszt Symphony No 5 (first mov), etc.

If lounge and/or restaurant, then of course something sweet and romantic.
