Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 1
on: January 06, 2016, 03:54:49 PM
My terrible attempt at playing the piano. If it's in anyway possible, i hope you'll enjoy it. Nerves and sweat made me miss a few (lol) notes a couple of times but I just shrugged it off and tried to see if I could keep on going without disrupting the flow too much. I hope it's at least somewhat decent...

P.S. Please ignore the weird moans. I don't know why I do that, it's quite irritating.

It's a lovely interpretation despite of the quality of the sound haha. You should have recorded yourself playing too, so I could've seen your hands !

I enjoyed it, it is such a beautiful nocturne of Chopin, my favourite one with Op 48 no 1. I really love minor keys composition that modulates then into a major key...That change is breathtalking.

I really liked it, keep uploading more videos !

Despite your technical errors (which really weren't that huge), I thoroughly enjoyed your playing.
When I clicked on this thread I thought it would be one of the horrid self taught, arrogant pianists who's been playing 6 months and think they're the next Rubinstein..
Cheers, mate.

Thank you, your praise means a lot to me! I was worried that I might have taken too many liberties but I'm pleasantly surprised that they didnt come off as exaggerated to the point of detracting you from the music.

My advice:
Have you heard Artur Rubinstein play it? Of course you have. What i would advise is to try to let the end of each "Run' last a little longer. I think that letting the idea sink in before moving onto the next cluster of notes would be helpful. It sounds like you are using a electric piano so I have no doubts that if you had access to the same equipment as Artur your recording would be much better.
All in all very good job.
Sometimes I can only groan and suffer and pour out my despair at the piano.

I hate the feel of my piano, acoustics tend to be lighter and feel much more natural under my fingers, even if the key actions are heavy. Light or heavy action eletronic pianos (the ones I've tried) just tend to fail at making my fingers feel at home. Unfortunately for now I'm going to have to deal with it...

I get what you mean, I feel like I do rush in those parts a little bit. When I started working on this piece, I preferred to play it a bit like Rubinstein, the problem was: I practiced and practiced and practice and eventually I got bored of my initial interpretation of the piece, so I decided to change things up a little bit. I'm a bit bored of this style of playing for now, so I'll see if I can change things up a bit especially during the runs, I think I can do a little (a lot more! xD) of an improvement in there. But yes, I see and agree with your point. Thank you for the advice, and thanks for listening!

Finding it difficult to get the funds to buy a good recorder...

Looks like I'll have to do with an ipad for awhile, though luckily I have access to a real piano. So I'll update this soon. =D
