Piano Songs in F Minor?
on: January 17, 2016, 05:25:04 PM
I have played piano for 6 years now and have even composed a few pieces for the piano and currently I want my next piece to be in F Minor, so I wish to familiarize myself with the key by playing songs in said key.

Here is a list of songs I can play masterfully or to a near masterful extent to give you an idea of my skillset:

1. Fantasie in D Minor by Mozart
2. Pavane in F Sharp Minor by Faure
3. Bach's BWV540, 910, 911, 922, and 989
4. Haydn's Piano Sonata in B Minor
5. Moonlight Sonata
6. Chopin's Nocturne in C Sharp Minor
7. Mozart's Fantasy in C Minor KV475
8. Mozart's Piano Sonata in A Minor KV310a (1st mvmt)
9. Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major (2nd mvmt)
10. Schubert's Piano Sonata in E Minor
11. Schubert's Piano Sonata in A Major (2nd mvmt)
12. Mozart's Requiem in D Minor (Lacrimosa)

There's more but that should give you a general idea. Thanks in advance^^~

Don't forget Chopin Op. 10 No. 9 and Op. 25 No. 2, and Liszt S. 139 No. 10. Plus the Chopin F Minor Concerto if that counts. There's two Bach Preludes and Fugues in F Minor, and Beethoven Appassionata and First Sonata.

Good list being compiled. I would add the Schubert impromptu Op. 142/1 in F minor, as well as 142/4. Oh, ad the f minor fantasie for four hands.

Pick a key, any key, and Bach has at least two preludes and fugues for you.

uh i think you're misunderstanding me here.

i know the key of f minor, the problem is that i dont know how to turn it into a song in f minor. so i wanted to listen to some other pieces in that key in order to get some inspiration. if your intention is to just be rude, then please leave. i asked for something very simple and your reply isnt appreciated at all.

really wow you know the key of F minor but not how to make a song in F minor.  Then study  composition idiot.   If you did know the key of F minor you would know the chord scale, and how to "turn it into a song."   Listening to other "songs" in F minor isn't going to help you if have no clue what you are listening to.  This is complete BS and you know it. Who are you trying to impress here?  Do you not understand that anyone with any authority in this area knows you are full of sh!t immediately.

as a known pianist day after day you are bombarded with people trying to convince you that they know something about music.   they ask such ridiculous questions and then wait for you to acknowledge their musicianship.

you can't FOOL people who can play!!! WE ALWAYS KNOW YOU ARE FULL OF SH!T.

If you're still looking for F Minor pieces, I'd check out Liszt's s. 144, no. 2 "La Leggierezza" and the Chopin nocturne op. 55 no. 1.

Bach Two Part Invention No. 9 in F Minor-probably much easier than a lot of the repertoire you have played, but it's a nice piece,

Beethoven-Sonata in F Minor, Op. 2 No. 1

If you are just trying to get more familiar with a key, try transposing any of the above pieces into that key.  Not to try and perform, but it can help understand theory since you will have to think about it more. As far as an actual Fminor piece, others have mentioned some great pieces to try.

For all the rudeness of Trollbuster's posts, I am mystified about the question.  There is music in major keys and in minor keys but there is nothing special about a specific minor key, so why the need for F minor in particular.  Specific keys come into play when you consider instruments - for example some keys are easier to play in, for a given instrument.  But other than that, harmonic progressions and other things used in composition are still the same, are they not?
I also wasn't able to see the connection between the pieces the asker has played, and the ability to compose.  I'm missing something here.
