Fugue - Schubert's finest melody, in my opinion :)
on: January 18, 2016, 10:34:59 PM
Of course there are hundreds to choose from. I just really love this one. It also really works nicely fugally. Perhaps as I grow more confident in my improvisations I will use less pedal, maybe not, for I do want a little romantic ambiance to linger. I think the result is quite ok.

I hope you like it..

Schubert's late A major piano sonata D. 959 final movement main theme

Thanks

I know little Schubert but I do like the general effect of your contrapuntal style. Keeping to a strict number of indepenedent strands is unnecessary in order to produce fluid motion, or so I have found, and either hand can do duty anywhere on the keyboard at a moment's notice. In other words, I feel that consciously thinking about and separating the functions of each hand doing things with a fixed number of voices is obstructive to flow. I don't doubt that individuals exist who have developed the mental arithmetic to do it, but there are diminishing returns with effort in terms of aural effect.

Is the resulting musical effect, power and meaning proportional to the amount of design and pattern involved in the generation of musical sound ? For me the answer is clearly no, and all theory is a complete waste of time, but thousands of musicians would strongly disagree.

In any case, please keep posting your recordings.

Oh, but it would be fun to argue with some of these thousands, don't you think?

I think you are completely right. But is that simply because I don't have the mental bandwidth to accomplish that or?

The organic flow of music is tantamount for my ears. The less I think, the more often I am pleased with the result.

Thanks again.

Not now. At my age I can't be bothered arguing with anybody any more. I just create the sounds which I enjoy, leave others to follow whatever path they choose and good luck to them. I might have debated all sorts of things thirty or more years ago, and even on forums a decade ago, but never very seriously. I never wanted anything from music other than the happiness it gives me, and this has proved a very wise precept over the years.

That is probably the smarter way to go but now that I am slowly emerging out of my cave and seeing the state of shambles both classical and jazz music seem to be in right now, I am finding myself more inclined to argue with others about it. It is probably a ridiculous and useless feeling to have, I just find myself wondering how people are thinking, if they have thought through what they are holding on to. For perhaps I am completely misguided as I really have been in a sort of cave for a long time. If I am misguided then I should make an effort to rearrange my thoughts. I don't want to be a belligerent idiot. I have paid little attention to the whole classical music world for a long time now. I haven't fallen in love with a classical musician for over 20 years now I would guess. I have since soaked up Mr. Keith Jarrett's recordings, listened very occasionally to some old favourites and some new stuff. Otherwise I enjoy silence. But it does surprise me how much the classical music world seems different then the tail end of the golden days I caught back when I was young. It is still great music, just so few are willing to spend money on it, me included. It is kind of heart-breaking.
