i absolutely adore David Diamond symphony no 2, probably the most profound and successful of his output, and one of the finest of the 20th century by an American. that first movement in particular is deep. wow

The symphonies I enjoy the most are the last few of Mozart. Schubert's symphonies are also enjoyable. I think a lot of people will say Mahler, but I've honestly never seen the fuss about him. His symphonies just seem long-winded and cheesy to me. Who knows, maybe I will come to appreciate them one day. I am mostly familiar with piano repertoire and am no expert on other formats.

My knowledge of symphonies (and music in general ) is unsurpassed in its fallacies, but I do have 2 favorite symphonies: Beethoven 6 and 9.

Beethoven 6th is indeed wonderful.  Mozart 41 is spectacular - the last movement is a MUST listen to piece of musical genius with no parallel that I can think of.

I also really like Brahms 3.

For a real change of pace - Prokofiev 5.

Maybe it is just me, but I have never been the least bit drawn to Mahler or Bruckner.  Same goes for Berlioz.  Dvorak - quite listenable, but none compare to the music of the biggies.
Chopin Ballades
Chopin Scherzos 2 and 3
Mephisto Waltz 1
Beethoven Piano Concerto 3
Schumann Concerto Am
Ginastera Piano Sonata
L'isle Joyeuse
Feux d'Artifice
Prokofiev Sonata Dm
