Piano Books for newbies
on: December 27, 2004, 07:05:33 AM
Christmas greetings:
I am interested in returning to the piano after a 15 year absense. I used to play it when I was in high school. I was wondering if someone could recommend a book or a series that would take one through in a structured, self taught course. Preferably with classical pieces as examples, because I have no desire to learn modern stuff.
Thanks
Thomas

I don't know if I posted this before on this site but I'll say it here anyway. I like the Alfred Basic Adult All-in-One Piano Course. There are three books and CDs that go with the first two books. You can order from a place like sheetmusicplus.com
(Actually, you have to make sure it's the book/CD combo you're ordering. When you do a search on the site, you'll only see maybe one of ones you're looking for pop up. Then you have to click on the right one to see a description of it and links that go to the other ones in the series.)
Even though I like that I just ordered eMedia keyboard & piano method. You can order a Connections "MIDI to sound card" cable and the eMedia CD-ROM from Kelly's Music & Computers (they ship from the US or Canada). You can plug that cable to the joystick port on your computer. I checked with HP to verify that. I can't wait until it arrives. There are 70 video demonstrations and 316 lessons. The Alfred Course above only has close to 200 lessons.
