Rachmaninoff Sonata for Cello and Piano
on: January 30, 2016, 01:34:17 AM
Greetings all,

For those of you who have played the above mentioned piece, what edition did you think was the best? I'm tossing up between the Boosey and Hawkes which is quite expensive, and the International Music Company which is cheaper. Does anyone know if there is much difference between these two editions?

Cheers!

I have the Boosey edition, which seems to be identical (including layout and page turns) with the original Russian edition freely available on IMSLP. As far as I know, the only difference between IMC and Boosey is that in the IMC edition the cello part has bowings and fingerings added by Leonard Rose.

I notice that there are a few other editions available (check out sheetmusicplus) but I strongly suspect that they are all in fact simple copies of the original.

The sonata is a joy to play: have fun!
