Richard Johnson Editions (Schubert, Schumann, Chopin)
on: February 06, 2016, 02:13:12 PM
I was looking for a clean, lightly edited edition of a Schubert impromptu and on IMSLP I came across exactly what I was looking for:
https://javanese.imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/7/7c/IMSLP67286-PMLP02063-SchubImprOp142no3r.pdf
It is a really fine piece of work (faultless fingerings, in my opinion) and I noted from the front page (which seems to date from 2009) that it was intended to be the start of a series of cleaned-up Urtexts, with up-to-date fingerings, of works by Schubert, Schumann and Chopin. I've looked around IMSLP I can find one or two other pieces from 'Richard Johnson Editions', but by no means the promised list; furthermore, richardjohnsoneditions.com is mentioned, and leads nowhere.
Does anyone know what happened to Richard Johnson Editions?
I have sent an email to the address given, but so far no response. On another of the pieces, the name Ephraim Jones is mentioned.
If anyone knows any more, I'd be interested, if only to thank the editor for his fine work. (I'd recommend the Schubert from personal experience.
Kind regards to all my fellow pianists.

This is quite interesting and while I do not have any information on this as of yet I will have a good luck tomorrow and let you know if I come up with anything.

I am particularly interested from a Chopin Perspective

EDIT

just had a little look I am thinking it started but never really got off the ground https://imslpforums.org/viewtopic.php?t=3533

shame.

Thanks, Adodd.
The engraver/editor in question is Ephraim Hammett Jones, but he seems to have disappeared too. The works mentioned in the thread you found, by the way, are probably all available at IMSLP, including a few Chopin pieces.
All best wishes.
