Where to go next?
on: February 07, 2016, 11:36:19 AM
Hi,
Six months ago - ended a year long debussy spree in which I completed most of his major works
Since - have played Chopins scherzo 2, a few nocturnes, the ocean etude and liszts La Campanella

Question: what's a really technically challenging, but beautiful, piece which would help develop my skills as a pianist?  Thanks

P.s. Please don't suggest any of the other scherzos/ballades

I found a pretty close realization to this a while back
I believe the sheets are out there if you are diligent and industrious in your search. Cool music w romantic flare a la golden age of piano rachmanaffian w some Impressionist  flavors

Hi there!
If you like Debussy and are looking for a technical challenge, may I suggest Ravel?
They're quite different in style, but a lot of the ideas they present are similar musically. Ravel is one of the hardest composers for a pianist to play properly, but when played right - he is incredible.
Just to get your mind going:

Good luck!

Variations on a Theme of Paganini by Brahms.

I hope I have been of assistance.
Albeniz - Suite Espagnole
Bach - Goldberg Vars
Chopin - Ballade No 2, Barcarolle, Polonaise Op 44
Beethoven - Sonata No 31
Mozart - Sonata No 14
Schubert - Sonata No 16
Prokofiev - Sonata No 2
