(I knew that this subject would get your attention--lol)

Seriously, have you ever had a problem with "bodily functions" during a performance, or have you ever accompanied any one who did?  What about at a recital when you were a kid?  Anybody pee or pass gas?  I thought of this because my very first piano teacher told me a horror story of a previous recital where the first player was a little boy who threw up as soon as he sat at the piano!  ewwwwwww

No... but one of the most embarassing things Ive seen was a 12 year old with very tight pants and a huge erection, all the while he played.

honestly I do feel this could be a problem, so ALWAYS empty your bladder before. :)
For a good laugh, check out my posts in the audition room, and tell me exactly how terrible they are :)

I hope he didn't barf on the keys!  Yikes!

This is one of "those" topics.  I've never had "problems" with bodily functions once I sat down to the piano - my problems at that point were quite different!  - Playing the darned thing for instance!

But - just like Pavlov's dogs, I "have" to go to the bathroom before a performance at a point where it's obviously too late to go!  Even if I already went.  Just another one of those little mental problems to get over!

Donjuan, I KNOW what you are thinking, and no, I have never done such a thing!!  I ask because once I accompanied a singer and when we were backstage, getting ready to walk on stage, she said "I have to pee really bad".  I thought, "Okaaaaaay."  I was just thinking back to this and thought I would ask the forum members if they have had a similar experience with um......bodily functions!

Shame on you for thinking what I know you were thinking, Donjuan! lol j/k

How about a sneeze?

This happened when I was playing background music for pre-dinner drinks at a formal business function (I'm NEVER doing that again!!!) - and only a waiter carrying drinks past the piano noticed, so it was all right.

I often fart while playing. As nobody is usually within hearing range it doesn't matter, although I have been caught out on occasions. It's quite funny to see who laughs and who is embarrassed. I record a lot of improvisation and these contain numerous farts, grunts and various other bodily and household noises.

If I played in public I'd have to be careful but at home who cares.
