VIDEO: Prelude No. 6 (Andante)
on: February 29, 2016, 07:38:25 PM
Prelude No. 6, in D-Flat Major, shows some Rachmaninoff influence (like many of my compositions). Its cantabile melody is accompanied by cascades of descending sixteenths. The melody's distinctive head motive, consisting of an upward leap followed by a descending semitone, is inverted in the slower middle section (which tonicizes B-flat)--becoming a downward leap following by an ascending semitone. This inverted form comes across as a contrasting melody, but one that is organically connected to the original.
Currently, the score for the whole nine-prelude set is available through AJ Long's website: https://ajlongspiano.com/store
