I know I'm about to have my head jumped on (and I'm humbly prepared to be educated) but: Schubert just doesn't do it for me. I've spent most of my adult life singing, and I never much liked the lieder, and I've just had to play a chunk of his Amajor sonata for an exam, and it was my least favourite piece (although it was the one which the examiner scored highest - 28/30, which is disconcerting). It's not that I actively dislike his works, just that given the choice, I'd much rather play Bach or Mozart or Chopin or Debussy or Beethoven or Grieg or...anyone, really.
