Need Help for CM Panel Repertoire
on: March 06, 2016, 01:46:18 AM
I've started choosing my repertoire for next year's Certificate of Merit Panel. For those who don't know what it is, it's the highest "level" of the CM program in California for 10th through 12th graders. The first round is in February of 2017, and if I pass that round there's Panel Finals in April. At Panel Finals, some students are selected as Honor or Masterclass. I'm doing it this year as a sophomore, and sophomores can only get into Honors. I passed the first round, but I still need to wait for finals in April.  There's also YAG, but I'm not sure if my repertoire would be advanced enough for that. For YAG, you need a 30 minute repertoire (I think).
Applicants need one of each: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Etude, and Contemporary pieces.
So Far I have this:
Baroque: Bach Prelude and Fugue WTC, I just started No. 21 Bb Major BWV 866, but I'm not sure if it is advanced enough.
Classical: Mozart Sonata in C minor K. 457
Romantic: Tchaikovsky Dumka Op. 59 or Chopin Ballade no. 1 or ____ Anybody have ideas? Looking for a long piece like 8+ minutes.
Contemporary: No Clue?
Etude: Liszt or Scriabin Etude, I really want to do La Campanella, but it'd be a stretch (both figuratively and literally). I think if I step up my practice, it may be achievable.

So any suggestions, criticisms. Also, if anyone is familiar with YAG, how advanced does the repertoire need to be?

I know the Certificate of Merit Program! I think for a contemporary piece you should play Prokofiev Toccata or Kabalevsky Sonata No.3. I don't know the syllabus for CM Panel.
Beethoven Op 2/2
Chopin Op 20, maybe op 47/38
Debussy Etude 7
Grieg Op 16
Want to do:
Chopin Concerti 1 and 2
Beethoven Waldstein
Ravel Miroirs

Is there date range specified for "contemporary?"  If the contemporary music parade get wind of this thread, it may turn into another - 50 year old compositions are not contemporary debate.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
