Steinway B 2010 Questions, Price too low?
on: March 07, 2016, 01:52:35 AM
Hello,
I'm looking to purchase my 1st Steinway B, and I found on on eBay thats priced at $52,000 and happens to be a 2010 or 11. I'm on here asking advice / suggestions. That's as high as I wanted to go, but it almost seems too good to be true. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

Read the "overrated" thread. There are great Steinways, there are other Steinways. Wood is variable, felt is variable, and the voicer has great days and if human, other days. If real (casting marks, not paint and gold leaf) it will meet a minimum standard and be durable, but beyond that, buyer inspect it and try it out. Big halls have more than one to suit different pianists, and if you read the article in PS, one hall has two actions for one of the grands. About an hour to change it out.

let me guess, all the pianos at Curtiss wonderland (is Biss teaching there now, or did you study with Fleisher or Horzowski ?) are steinway & sohn. apparently yamaha and kawai got their products placed in Warsaw for the chopin competition along with s & s, which amused me . if you are still a student, and taking on serious debt to buy a great piano, take great care, 'cause debt can dictate future decisions for you. in Philadelphia (or comparable north american cities) there must be some wonderful pianos < 40 k.

Go play it. If you still like it, investigate more. Just because it says Steinway B, doesn't mean it will play as your ideal Steinway B.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
