has anyone here played the Hammerklavier?

Yo what's good.  It's been a minute since I've been on here.  Anyways check this out.  I'm thinking of learning the Hammerklavier for my senior recital next year.  But the piece is so damn big it's hard for me to gauge what are some of the challenges it poses. I know the last movement has like a 20 page double fugue so it's probably gonna be nasty to remember.

if you care to look at the 'audition' section of the forum, you will find a performance of LvB's opus 111.  there's a comment from a senior practitioner who studied under Kempff, very likely in  a master class on Beethoven sonatas.  so at least two of the esteemed contributors here probably know op.106.  there is also another thread under 'repertoire' whose main topic is op. 106 with some analysis that might interest you.  have fun.

Why do you insist on using MY hands for all that LvB?? If you want to fugue, learn something like Franck's C,P&F!

WOAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH hold up there.

I do agree Germans were the better composers back in that time period, BUT...

Couperin is pretty fire low key.  I'm taking harpsichord lessons and only learning his music.

Me approves! Do teach my hands to handle period instruments, I have plenty of ideas how to use them...

I am a self proclaimed Beethoven master, but utter shite at Mozart, who is my fave. Hammerklavier is difficult, but if you have experiene at beethoven eg 8th, 14th, 23rd sonatas also 19th and 20th, generally considered the easiest it shouldn't be too tricky, especially if you have played liszt. it is quite fun to play but performance is intense and you really need to know the piece super well
