A new piano - need advice !
on: March 18, 2016, 06:35:28 PM
Hi guys, how r u doing ?
I have been playing the piano on and off over the last 14 years and i had a pretty shitty piano ever since i was 5 years old. Recently i came back to studying the piano and i want to buy a new piano.
I asked for advice about a brand from my teacher and he recommended me to try out the PETROF brand. My budget is around 4k - 5k and i wanted to ask if PETROF is a good brand for this budget and also worth the price.
Thanks for the advice guys, and im looking forward for this site as it looks awesome and the forums are pretty awesome !

Grand or upright. Its a tight budget for a grand but you mught get lucky. You can do wirse than petrof but it will depend.on uts condition. But used. Retail is for suckers

the price range you've mentioned would be a substantial investment, and depending on where you are located and in the market, you potentially have quite a few options in very good, used upright pianos. think in terms of evaluating each piano individually, not by name brand. is your instructor's piano a Petrof, and do you particularly enjoy it ? if he is teaching you on a grand piano, you will probably find quite a difference when you try a vertical. in general terms, though, a top notch vertical will probably give you more satisfaction than a small, mediocre grand, which might be your options at the stated price point. you could get lucky with a used, small grand, but it also might need a bit of work (a used vertical might easily require the same of course) and extra expense.
