"This music bores me"

I find it interesting that more recently a lot of people are complaining about how music 'bores' them. Some examples are Liszt's 11th etude or Chopin's 6th etude op. 10. TBH these pieces and many others bored me for a time also but what I did is I kept listening to it, listening for beauty. And I found it. These are two of my favorites now. I think a lot of great music is ignored because people listen because they want to be entertained and do not listen for true musicianship.

Exactly, adodd. For example, etude #10 (42:23) I find very exciting and entertaining, but I do not think it is nearly as musical / as much of a masterpiece as #11. :)

I will say, however, I do love listening to the part at 45:20 ;D

There are plenty of pieces that bore me (10-6 is definitely not among them). I have not often found this to change even after many listenings. But these often are ones that do have "catchy tunes" in other people's mind...go figure...

10-6 is a fascinating piece to me. The LH sounds a bit like a Bach cello suite or something of that nature, and the RH sounds a lot like a singer. Beautiful work.
Echoing Adodd's statement, I'd like to put Fantaisie Impromptu into this category; lovely catchy thing, especially the middle section, but overall not really a fantastic work.

I don't mind the c sharp minor impromptu. I don't love it, but I don't mind it. I think Frederic had many greater compositions that don't get recognized enough such as the 4th scherzo or 2nd ballade. IMO much, much greater compositions. And yet 'can I play the fantasie impromptu' comes up 3x per month here on PS without mention of the ballade or scherzo. I really find the voicing at the beginning of the ballade absolutely fantastic. Every note selected carefully to deliver pure 100% beauty to the listener :)

Lot of classical music  (and other types) bore me. It isnt some rocket science. You could analyze it or see it in a different perspective after a few listens, sure. But in some cases, it is like wearing the emperor's clothes. You cant just justify something to 'enlighten' you if it never did in the first few times , but because some media or bias told you it should.

Some of these are just not well made.

Fantastic! And yet the showy ones like la campanella and the TEs (all fantastic btw) get played 24/7 while this 'boring' (? ? ? ?) masterpiece sits in the corner :(

lol please...that nocturne is a staple of the standard repertoire. hardly qualifies as "under-valued"

youre really going to have to try really hard in order to find a neglected Chopin piece. Only the WoO would qualify imo...



the fugue...
or the polish songs...
hmm maybe the first rondo...

but the op. 37 no. 1 nocturne? nah

are you just going to list every piece by chopin that isnt used as an encore piece
the op. 50 mazurkas arent as popular as the other ones, but that doesnt mean theyre neglected. there are hundreds of recordings by mainstream pianists on youtube.

this is what neglected truly means = when you cant even find one recording, or worse, THE SHEET MUSIC online.


people think that Beethoven's choral fantasie is "obscure" just because it isnt as popular as his 3rd or 5th symphony.

Some Chopin pieces are neglected sure, relative to his insanely popular works that is. However in the general scheme of things (the entire repertoire) they hardly qualify as neglected.

Lol by definition music is a form of entertainment.  If aint entertained, I aint listenin to it.

But anyways, the 12 TE etudes are pretty flame. 

Recently there was a girl in my studio who cranked out all of them in a recital.

seriously though
Along with ave maria, elf king, gretchen spinnrancncnd etc standchen is one of the most famous lieders by schubert. the theme has been transcribed and rearranged dozens of times. hardly qualifies as neglected...
