That Russian lady
on: March 25, 2016, 07:50:48 PM
I'm sure many of you loath Valentina for her very dry and lifeless renditions. "Her technique is stunning but her musicality is moot", many have said of her.

But with her recent recordings (sonata in b, ballade in g) I am forced to belive that she is becoming a more musical musician. Yes or no?
Sometimes I can only groan and suffer and pour out my despair at the piano.

count me in the minority, but argerich's early recordings didn't strike me as very musical.  maybe my slow brain isn't up to those high r.p.m. tempi.  adding musicianship should be a natural process as one matures as a person.  VL had some thoughtful comments about the rachmaninoff concerti after putting in a fair amount of work on the third and performing it frequently.  she played along with rachmaninoff recordings.  might be a parallel to the old school acting (mimicry, mime) compared to the 'method', if she assimilated musicianship from imitating a great musician.

I don't know why people talk trash about her, but if she really was dry she would not of been there where she is today. Maybe one doesn't like a recording or more, but it doesn't mean she's dry and musicless.

Noted. I can't seem to find a way to edit the title. I am on mobile. Maybe that's why.

Anyways, I think that some people may have the idea that she is a shoddy musician because of her Chopin etudes. They were not the best musically. But then again they are etudes. But then again again that should not matter.

There is an editing timeout currently in place on Pianostreet.

Look in the PF Website board for the threads on restoring the modify button.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
