Beethoven Waldstein Sonata 3rd Movement Recording
on: April 07, 2016, 07:03:47 PM
Hello everyone. I was digging through my old recordings last year (I am only 13 so there are obviously a limited amount) and I stumble across a rather fine recording of the last movement of Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata. The recording was made last June on a Steinway Grand Model D and as I start with the 2nd movement, you will have to skip to minute 1:19 to get to the 3rd movement. Technically it is not exactly formidable but I was quite young back then and my technique was developing with a piece which was probably slightly out of my ability. Anyway, there are a few rushings, uneven passages, and pedalling mistakes but overall I hope you enjoy the recording :). Any comments or critique will be appreciated. Thank you

beautiful playing, daniele.
It's hard to believe you're only 13. You play very well.

PS your accent is just as amazing as your playing ;)
and I think the reason that there are views, but not replies is because there are plenty of people who lurk on here and don't have an account...so even if they wanted to comment, they'd have to create an account.

Your playing is amazing, very musical. You are better at 13 than I have ever been, so I really have nothing else to offer.  ;)

'slightly out of my ability', clearly it was not.  a bit of smoothing and polishing, clarifying, and it would be concert-level.  didn't even hear this sonata until I was seventeen years old, and this movement is one of my most favorites.  congratulations on building such a powerful and sensitive musical foundaion at your age.

Thank you both of you for such kind comments. I understand completely what you say @hualdongxi about how with a bit of polishing and clarifying it would be at concert level, it is just that (as I was 10 months ago) my technique was not particularly great as I didn't practise for 3+ hours a day drilling myself on exercises all day long. Hence, I always struggle when it comes to polishing a piece as sometimes my hands just cannot get around it no matter how hard I work on it (e.g. the coda in the Waldstein). Anyway, thank you for your kind words - I really appreciate it :).

Ma'am'selle P-S, are you the one and same who presents math riddles on Quora ?  a beautiful mind you have.  remember, Alicia de Larrocha could barely reach a tenth, as it happens the same size as my hands, though she was a full foot shorter than me (with more muscular arms too of course).  your touch in the rapid ascending and descending runs reminded me of (the adult) Horowitz.  Beethoven is a life's journey.

@hualdongxi Wow! That's so amazing that you know me on Quora (no-one has ever told me that) - how did you know? By the way, I absolutely adore Alicia de Larrocha and her rendition of Schubert's B flat major sonata is just wonderful...calm, mediative, 'mediterranian' sounding, and at the same time a lovely tone colour and sense of rhythm (she carries the lines beautifully). Anyway, thank you for your kind words and hope to get to know you better both here on pianostreet and on Quora!

ach, a thousand pardons young sir, my miscomprehension of your first name.  de Larrocha had an incredible motor, a sense of, and ability to drive, the rhythmic impetus of the music.  probably why she could get any concerto performance with orchestras everywhere any time she cared to, and her Bach is like no one's, since he derived many of his movements from dances.

There are really some breathless moments .... if you are 13, then
I must say you play with the skill and feel of someone with far more years.
CONGRATULATIONS!
