Amazing how long it can keep going as long as you relax between beats.

How does breathing affect heartbeats? Sometimes if its too exciting, I forget to breathe ( I know! bad habit..). I'm pretty sure I get a few mini-heart attacks during the concluding passages in the A and coda sections chopin's op. 44.
Composing/improvising

Chopin's 4th ballade and 3rd sonata.
Scriabin Op. 42 no. 1, 2, and 3.

you can bear down by breathing in super deep and if you build enough pressure  in your chest cavity, you can get a vagal (vagus nerve) response. this can slow it (and in some instances artificial stimulation of this nerve can stop the heart).
