How does breathing affect heartbeats? Sometimes if its too exciting, I forget to breathe ( I know! bad habit..). I'm pretty sure I get a few mini-heart attacks during the concluding passages in the A and coda sections chopin's op. 44.

you can bear down by breathing in super deep and if you build enough pressure  in your chest cavity, you can get a vagal (vagus nerve) response. this can slow it (and in some instances artificial stimulation of this nerve can stop the heart).
