VIDEO Liszt Transcendental Etude No. 10 - F minor
on: April 22, 2016, 04:55:38 PM
Hey all, thinking about starting a new Liszt etude within the next week or so (Ricordanza maybe) and would love some feedback on the last Liszt I played. Memory slips are still a demon I'm overcoming, but would love any advice on that in addition to other musical things. Thank you all!

Love your excellent soft dynamics. However, the general feeling I'm getting is a lack of high volume areas as well, in relation to the softer parts.
Excellent color change at around 1:43 or so. Nicely done.
But again, I feel like you could be a little louder at around 2 minutes or so.
And again at 2:16, before the 1st recapitulation.

Thank you! I generally have no problem with volume, so that should be an easy fix.

Good playing, of course. I did feel it was a bit muted/introverted in approach though, and that it would benefit from a greater range of dynamics and mood.

Thank you all. Common theme seems to be to "let go." More extreme dynamic and color shifts and pushing the tempo more. I will definitely try these out.

Congratulations! I really enjoyed it, especially considering it was a live performance! Excellent left hand melodies. I would humbly suggest being a bit more of a "forte-man" since it's a Liszt's Etude. I did sometimes get a feeling it was more quasi-Chopin. Lastly, I would do the Coda a little bit faster....and louder the more it'd get towards the end (although you do it really well and can still keep it that way if you prefer it to be so). If you want to play no.9 you might enjoy no.11 as well. It's a work of art! All the best John.

I had missed this one! Very well played! If you wanna post another Liszt etude, I would humbly vote for my favorite, already mentioned by lisztarian, Harmonies du Soir :-) I'd be glad to hear your performance of it.
