There is no doubt a wolf would be a serious threat to a man. They are larger, stronger, faster than a German Shepherd, and unlike a domestic animal their survival depends on efficient killing.
But in North America it never really happens. Wolves avoid humans. Apparently in Europe this is not as true.
Friends of mine who live in Alaska say wolves are very smart. You can observe them if you are not armed, and they are never a threat. If you are carrying a rifle you cannot get within 500 meters of them, usually not even that close.
