Jazz Piano

Do you need to learn pop piano first before you can play Jazz Piano ?
How do you get started with Jazz piano ? Can I start buying those Jazz piano books for kids to start with ? Or should I start learning Jazz chords or Jazz books with CDs ?

As usual it's probably best to get a teachers input. But beyond that; what are the things you want to learn? Just home in on whatever it is. If you dislike pop, there's no reason why you should play it...The technique of playing solo piano from a "lead sheet" (melody and chord symbols) is basically the same in jazz as pop anyway.

Why not get in touch directly with Dave Frank ? He is a member of this forum, "dfrankjazz". His tutorial videos are excellent, and he has recently started a forum of his own:

No. Yes. Yes.
dont get caught in paralysis of analysis. Just start doing. Kids intro jazz books are a decent start. There is an abrsm jazz course too, its progressive. I think i have pdf of the entire thing amd recall thinking it looked solid.
get the dvorak jazz etudes books i and ii. Stsrt at tue beginning amd work your way through
Its one of the things im aboug to start mself soon.
starts simple enough but they build up amd by book ii you get into stuff like this
