Cello and Piano
on: April 01, 2003, 11:13:58 AM
I am looking for a cello and piano adagio, or something of the sort... Perhaps of the romantic period.
I have heard the chopin and it is not to my liking.

Indeed "The Swan" is a glorious adagio piece for piano and cello
by Saint-Saens.  There is also the gorgeous "Après un rêve" of Gabriel Fauré as well (one of my great favourites) and the "Elégie"which is more dramatic and technically difficult.  These are all short pieces, especially the first two, and musically accessible.
Robert.

Yeah.  22/7 or 3.14.  Not bad for a musician, eh?

Hey! 22/7 = 3 + 1/7 = 3,142857142857...
That's like... like... saying that a piano has 90 keys!  :o

Isn't music mathematics really? Just spoiling it for ya.  ::)

Actually pi is an irrational number so it cannot be expressed as a fraction.  A more accurate estimation is 3.141592654... ad infinitum.

Pray what has the above exchange to do with subject? And no, music and mathematics are but tenuously connected on a theoretical level. Music is to do with sound and listening and the heart.
What about about some more suggestions for AvivS? :-/ Robert

OK I've just gotta know - was it the *two pianos* remark that spawned the pi discussion?  Not that I'm not INTERESTED in the value of pi, but .........

Actually i've heard from somewhere that Neuhaus said that music and and mathematics are 2 of the most important things in the world...
.....ah....sorry....ah..yes....right....suggestion....how about Funf Stucke im Volkston (Five Pieces in Folk-Song Style) Op. 102 by Schumann? They are very nice. Its for violin or cello with piano.

Pi = 4 * (1/1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 + 1/9 ...)

So much for more accurate!  ;D

(heavy sigh)  you boys and your pi.   ::)

I don't know many adagio cello pieces - the swan is the only good one I am familiar with.

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
