Why can't we delete our own posts?
on: January 05, 2005, 02:15:29 AM
Hey Nils, why is it that we can no longer delete our own posts?  I made a post the other day, and after I posted I went to modify it.  But then I thought "oh I'll just forget the whole thing", but there was no way to delete it, so I just put a dot (.), because it wouldn't allow me to post it because the "fields were empty" (or something like that)  Sorry!!  (You can delete my dot post if you want--lol)

I disabled the delete feature because a couple of times the person that started a topic for some reason has deleted their first post, although there were many interesting replies. It is quite confusing to have topics that start with the first reply instead of the initial post.

If you would like a post removed, just click the "Report to moderator" link in your post and ask me to delete it.

You could simply disable the deletion of a thread's root node.

Kaboombaaa! I'm now part of the glitterati, the haut monde, the upper echelon of piano forum society!

What I mean is that the person who starts a thread shouldn't be allowed to delete the subject post, but everyone else should, which wouldn't be too hard of a fix.

Congrats on the 1,000 posts! :)

Are you saying everyone should be allowed to influence whether a posts stays or goes?  That could mean a bunch of people who disagree with an idea could get a thread deleted, or someone mischevious person could get someone's post deleted.

Nils will delete your thread if you ask and if there's really nothing there.

I tried to get my post deleted by "report to moderator", but it said, "What!?!?  Report your own post!  Why, that's silly!"

Well, the post I wanted to remove was silly, because my question had been answered earlier, and I had missed it.

Must I remain known to all as new and foolish?

sigh, but it makes me feel young again...

I too received that error message when I tried to report my own post once upon a time...  :-[ 0101...

You can post a reply and ask someone else to report it, but we probably should be able to report our own posts.
