Hey everyone, I just started blogging again for my studio website.  I wanted to share this one with you all.  Maybe some of you can relate to my story.

I am a classical pianist teacher and listen to metal/heavy rock/goth, etc, and so does my husband. Many heavy metal bands were trained in classical music. My favorite heavy metal band is At The Gates though I don't know if they were trained.

dagny_taggart, I assume you're an Ayn Rand as as well  ;)

The odd thing about my musical path, was that I started out "metal trained" and eventually came to teach classical piano.  You usually hear about it the other way around.  I didn't attempt to play my first piano piece until I was 21 years old (I'm 39 now).  I now spend most of my time playing Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin.

I still enjoy my rock music though 8)

Ha, yes. Good catch. I am a huge Ayn Rand fan. The philosophy of Objectivism helps me in playing the piano and teaching it.

I appreciate metal very much and even some rock bands like Guns n Roses, Marilyn Manson, serious heavy metal bands, and lots of indie music as well. At my first piano recital when I was 16, I wore a Guns N Roses tank top and played some Beethoven -- I had pink hair and wild makeup, too. It was amusing. I still sport my gothic makeup and interesting hairstyles as a piano teacher which people accept deeming me "an artist" so I can get away with it.

I like having the gothic/metal classical dichotomy.

I love me some Ayn Rand as well.  Check out this video I made about her:

I had to write an essay on her when I was in college.  My music history professor wanted me to give an analysis of her views on music.  That was my first introduction to her.  I can't thank him enough for suggesting that to me.

Wow. I can relate to OP'S journey, In my own personal experience, I started classical as a kid, as I grew older I liked videogame/anime piano music, then I stopped, then took up a bass guitar/elec keyboard and became a band member for a rock/metal group(what the h*ll right?), after my bandmates left me all alone.. I decided to return my faith to the piano. But yes, I still hava a taste in metal.

I'm what you call "extremists", I love metal (Pantera, Mudvayne, Metallica) and I also love classical (Chopin - The 4 ballades, Mozart - k.576, beethoven - op.57).

And absolutely nothing in between! No justin bieber, beyonce, pop, lovesong, none of that trash.. Lol

Just wanted to share., I think this was far off topic? Sorry.
Yup.. still a beginner. Up til now..

When will a teacher accept me? :/
