I recently bought the Celebration Series grade 7 sheet music book and found out that its contemporary section is quite lacking. The only two pieces I like in it are Rebikov's Waltz and Shostakovich's Prelude in Fm, so I'd appreciate it if you could give me a few suggestions to widen the selection :)

Thanks in advance

Try looking at the Anthology of 20th Century Piano Music.  It is edited by Maurice Hinson and published by Alfred.  If nothing else, you could find it online and get some titles of pieces.
When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.

Thanks, I'll check it out tonight at the local music shop. In the meantime, do you have any specific pieces to suggest?

So far I have those in my possible choices list:

Rebikov - Waltz
Shostakovich - Prelude in Fm
Debussy - Golliwog's Cakewalk

Try:

Scenes from an Imaginary Ballet  by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.  These are all fantastic pieces
-  5 Preludes by Malcolm Williamson (J.Weinberger).  If you are after something contemporary these feature atonality etc..
-  Bear Dance from 10 Childrens Piece Bartok.  This is a classic!

It really depends on what you are after and what kinds of pieces you like..good luck and good hunting!

How hard (what level) is Prokofiev's March from The Love of Three Oranges (transcribed for piano by the composer). It could be a possible option.

Isn't it kind of scary that in 2005 we still call Shostakovich, Debussy (????), Prokofiev and Bartók "contemporary"?

My Piano duo partner has an excellent book which is published in Spain which is an introduction to contemporary notation and music.  When I go back I will see if I can find it and give you the information.  Laura says if one knows how to teach it, the kids love the freedom it provides. I'm not acquainted with the British system, what other pieces are grade 6-7 students playing?

Gyorgy Kurtag's Jatekok (Games) should work.   They are usually one page and lots of squiggly lines.

Had you considered something like Shostakovich one of the 3 fantasic dances? SPECTRUM by the ABRSM have a book of compositions under grade 8 level some of which use modern techniques (all by living composers). Bartok Mikrokosmos some of the earlier pieces ? Some of the easier Debussy preludes. Prokofievs childrens pieces or even 'The dance of the girls with lillies' from his Romeo and Juliet suite :-\. Your best bet is probably anthologies though! - more for the money - PS had you considered Bartok Roumanian Dances  - they are cool and you don't need to ply them all! 8)
