French Composerss Piano Recital
on: October 04, 2016, 04:14:37 AM
I am going to give a Recital  about French Composers

The Program will be :
Couperin            Les Barricades Myterious
Ramau      Gavotte with 6 doubles
Dacquin      Le Cocou
Saint-Saëns     Romance Son Parole
Bizet              Carmen Suite No.1
Chabrier            Habanera
Debussy      Claire de Lune
Debussy      Children's Corner:Doctor
Debussy      La plus Que Lente
Satie               Valse de Ballet
Satie              1 Gymonopodie
Satie              1 Gnosiense
Ravel       Pavane
Poulenc      Improvisation no. 15 "Hommage de Edith Piaf"
Milhaud      Tango de Fratellini

This Program will make about 64 minutes , is it better to give the  recital without intermission or with intermissions  ?
is this short recital ?
What is your opinion to add some famous pieces transcribed for piano like :
Saint Saens    Swan
Massenet       Meditation from Thais

I covered Baroque , Romantic , Impressionism , Modern

Do you have any suggestions for classical french composer/pieces ?

Thanks :)

this is a neat idea and off t a decent start.
1. yes it's long please include an intermission, generally if your playing time approx 30-45 minutes you can include a brief 'interval' ie 5 minutes just to recompose yourself give audience a little break but not enough to get up and leave hall and loiter, etc.  for 60+ 10 minute intermission with house lights light up, people leave seats, can talk etc is appropriate.
2a. the 2nd and 3rd Debussy and Satie seem redundant there is such a wealth of French composers.
2b. You already have Saint Saens so including a transcription seems redundant as mentioned above for a survey type recital
3a. Consider including Reynaldo Han
ie

but he wrote so much there's tons to look for
3b. What about Chaminade, what about Chabrier? Have not even scratched the surface
3c. please consider adding more classical period keyboard music, ie Pleyel comes to mind, lots to look at in this 56 minutes or so of piano music

If you want to try something different, Mel Bonis has some beautiful pieces. This is one of my favourites

Fauré has also very nice pieces.
