How to print sheet music?

I downloaded the Oborin arrangement of Canon in D as a PDF. It looks good on the screen, but when I print it, the notes are all square boxes with odd letters inside.

Is there a trick to getting it to print correctly?

Does it make any difference if you first download the file to your hard drive and open it in Adobe Reader instead of printing directly from the browser?
If not, check the option "Print as image" in your printer settings.
