Yundi Li
on: October 08, 2016, 08:36:57 PM
I just saw Yundi Li perform and he had a tablet (iPad I think) on the piano in front of him. Why would he have this and use it during a performance? Sheet music? He played a Chopin and beethoven concerto which were both wonderful. I assume he has recorded both pieces and knows them by heart so I'm very curious about this. Any ideas?

There are many examples of concert pianists who have known music 'by heart' but had human failure during a concert:  some minor, some disastrous.   A very large disaster occurred to Yundi Li during a prior concert.

He is therefore using the iPad to have access to the score to avoid this type of problem again.  Yes, he has it memorized, but at the same time, it is a fallback if needed.   He wins my applause for this!

Is there a youtube link for that concert?

It is on YouTube just search...

I thought it must be for sheet music. I couldn't think of anything else it could be. Thank you for your response.

The concert was wonderful.
