Latin Piano Music
on: October 23, 2016, 05:36:18 AM
Hi guys, looking for some Latin American piano repertoire along the lines of stuff like this:

Also, Ernesto Nazareth's Odeon is similar to what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Hello Chopinlover01

Since you recommended to me on another post, I'll share my love for Larregla too. This piece is 'Tarantella' but ' Viva Navarra' is more famous. It's maybe more Spainsh and not as Latin American but great pieces.

Hey ChopinLover.

Great topic.

If you don't already know it, you might want to try to track down "Military Tap" (Taquito Militar) by Mariano Mores.

The link I've posted is for a guitar version but it's the version that inspired me to learn the piece and stylistically is one of the best I've heard.

If you can't track the music down, I can send a .pdf.

best wishes,
jeff ok

I'd recommend the following:

Nazareth - Escorregando / Brejeiro
Lecuona - Gitanerias / Malaguena
Albeniz - the whole Suite Espanola / the whole Cantos de Espana / Tango / Pavana-Capricho / Serenata from Torre Bermeja
Granados - Valses poeticos / Danzas Espanolas
Hallfter - Danza de la Gitana / Danza de la Pastora

there are also good piano versions of tangos like Por una Cabeza, or Piazzolla's Libertango.

There are also two old pianostreet topics you could check out, one by me, one by user eithyeightkeys

As for the piece suggested by tinyhands, Viva Navarra, there's Pianostreet user Maitea that posted her great performance some time ago:

Espadero works, especially some of the larger scale ones are exceedingly rare in score and recording. here one of my favorite 'underrated' pianist , Lydie Solomon goes at it on the only video I know of for the Cuban Grand Fantasy

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
