on: November 01, 2016, 10:11:16 PM
Just learning piano and was wondering could anyone advise on some  pure piano CD - I am in my sixties and really like a mixture of everything - I bought the piano guys CD Wonders but did not like it at all - also starting to enjoy classical music a bit more now and also open to advice for a CD to listen to - guess I like a easy listening pieces - someone told me tonite that Beethoven the emperor is lovely - I would certainly try that if someone could direct me to the right cd - I am not really acquainted with classical music terms and phrases - thank you.

I am afraid a single CD is unlikely to satisfy your needs.
Also, as you improve and learn piano, your tastes will change with knowledge.
I would recommend, if you are looking into classical music, you could do well to buy a copy of Johann Sebastian Bach Partitas or English suites as a start. They are musically rich and being basically groups of dances of the era have a slightly varied feel as well. My personal recommendation would be by artist Murray Perahia on the Sony label.

If you find that music not quite to your liking you could really try and start with CDs of the well-known composers and their works of a slightly later era. Mozart works are little gems, Beethoven has a depth to his sonatas that will keep you interested for decades. Chopin and Schubert have beautiful lyrical and emotional music.

OR

You can easily find videos of these works on youtube for an initial listening so that you can have a better idea of what you are looking for.
