Most useful/helpful Exercises of Czerny
on: November 27, 2016, 06:07:40 PM
So I know this can be somewhat controversial, but I personally have found immense benefit in Hanon/Czerny studies so I am operating from the perspective of someone who does find these etudes helpful. However, as I look at Czerny's opus numbers in the 800's I realized that the prospect of simply playing through them all is a futile effort. I started with the first 3 of opus 299 and found them helpful, and I'm looking through opus 799 too.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a collection of exercises or just individual exercises that you would definitely give a student?

With a little context, arpeggios (even really challenging combinations like Chopin's etude op 10 no 1) are a strong point, scale-like, sequential passages are a weakness. I struggle with evenness in the switch from 3 or 4 to 1

Thanks
