Classical piano Audition soon, 2 pieces with 'contrasting pieces/movements'?
on: December 20, 2016, 11:53:12 PM
Hi, i have a classical piano audition coming up soon for a bachelor's program in classical performance. It doesn't say much, just '2 contrasting pieces/movemenets'.
Could I play two pieces from different time periods? Is that considered contrasting?
I was thinking
Piutossoto Allegro con Espressione: Clementi (Classical Period)
and
Nocturne in E Minor Op. 72 No. 1 (Romantic Period)
Thanks for your advice!

This sounds like a good combination in terms of style and period. Clementi is definitely more 'classical' sounding whereas the Chopin Nocturne is more of a Romantic character piece.
My only advice is to maybe choose a lighter 'Classical' piece in a major key. The Clementi is in F-sharp minor am I correct? When choosing these kind of programs I always try to go for contrasting keys as well. That's just a preference for me anyway.
