Chopin's Impromptu no. 3 in G-flat
on: January 14, 2017, 01:39:20 PM
Dear people from Pianostreet,
The impromptu no. 3 is one of my favorite Chopin pieces, but not played very often. I want to play it, but have no idea of how challenging it actually is. It does sound quite complex when listening to it.
Just finished the opus 22 Andante Spianato without too much effort. Would the impromptu be an appropiate piece to study next? Can anybody give me an idea of the difficulties of this piece?
Kind regards,
Dinant.

More layered, not as musically straightforward as his earlier period, needs more thoughtful pedaling, bit more counterpoint, more challenges in voicing...but it's not hard. you should be able to handle it. I would compare it to one of his late-period nocturnes in difficulty.

Why not play the 1st impromptu first?
