Hi,
I'm looking for a new major romantic work.  I'm not planning on going into music so i figured i should go for it while i have time.  I'm not considering Classical or Baroque because ill probably be doing a bach suite or sonata anyways. 

The 3 options i posted i guess would be the types of works i prefer.  Im not really into late Scriabin type music, although I'm open to persuasion  ;D

i guess for technical limits, these are the hardest works I've learned
Gaspard de la Nuit (complete)
Scriabin sonata no 2


thanks for any suggestion.  if i've missed out on anything please just ask!  :)

Can keep going, these are the first few that came to mind in the first 30 seconds or so, can difinately stop and give it more serious thought and put more later

Is this thread a joke? Someone of your claimed level should have a list of pieces you want to play a mile long.

I'd find it hard to disagree with this in the absence of evidence that might persuade me to the contrary.

What's wrong with the original version of the Rachmaninoff B flat minor sonata, for starters?

If substantial Romantic piano works are sought:

Rachmaninoff: Sonata No. 1
Szymanowski: Sonata No. 2
d'Indy: Sonata
Reger: Variations and Fugue on a theme of Bach
Medtner: Night Wind Sonata / Sonata Romantica
Barber: Sonata

and they're just for starters...

+1 to above. Or even a set of shorter beefy pieces would work too, ie add a short 1 or 2 to this and it's quite a lot of a'major' work

i can see how that looks like a joke to you, but I'm still not really at a high level.  I learned those works because they caught my interest. Gaspard took me 3 years and I'm still fixing kinks and consistency.  I had quite a lot of support from my teacher as well.

i actually like the first version of the Rachmaninoff sonata more, but the second version is shorter and i guess generally more "accessible".  I also read somewhere on this forum that its not to bad to move from revised to the 1913 version.

I had not heard of d'Indy before, but dang his violin sonata is nice lol.  his piano sonata seems to be hiding from me though.
