Programme suggestion for Recial
on: February 02, 2017, 02:10:34 PM
Hi all, I'm doing my end of year recital at music college in May, and I need some suggestion(s) to fill the remaining 10-15 min gap in my programme.

Current decided programme:
Rachmaninoff Prelude op.23 no.10
Haydn Sonata in Eb, Hob.XVI/52
Prokofiev Sonata no.3

this piece is so cool and would close a program well, it's written in a very much 'virtuoso' of the golden age era style, not too dissimilar to something some of the giants from the first half of the 20th century might have done. David is an important highly prolific contemporary composer and he sticks his feet firmly int the old romantic world while employing some wonderful modern devices here or there to keep things spicy.

I listened to a few minutes of this and I think it's an interesting piece.  Interesting title, too, redolent of something that I can't quite get my imaginative hands on.  You have a real knack for "digging" these gems up. ;)

it should sound sorta like something you may have heard before, David includes program notes that this is along and a sort of homage to the golden era of piano, and has some Rachmaninoff like spots.
Thanks for the compli, I came across the piece years ago and started some chatter about it personally with some colleagues around the world. I'm glad and people are starting to re discover it.

I scanned my copy for archiving in my personal collection library, here is the composer's program remark including a little more into the title  :) 8) ;)

*oh wow i had not looked at the score in over a year, there are spots that just all that black on the page, soooo many notes....I get a headache just giving it the once over.... :o
