Schubert D845 questions
on: March 30, 2017, 02:28:11 PM
Hi.

I would like some insight from anyone that has played this sonata.
I am planning to learn this in a year or 2 for finals but I want to start preparing for it, perhaps learning bits and pieces so long.
My other choice is Beethoven Op.10/3 which is a personal favourite as well.

What I'd like to know is what are the technical difficulties here and in which movements.
What is likely to be underestimated?
So any advice on this sonata would be greatly appreciated. It will be my first Schubert sonata, but I am busy with Impromptu D899/3, so it won't be my first Schubert work.

Technically, it's pretty straight forward TBH. Some sections can be a bit tricky at first, but they fall pretty comfortably under the hand, and with enough practice you should be able to play them well.
I think the main challenge with this sonata is the musical one. It's really important that you know exactly how you want it to sound, or else you're gonna have a bad time. Good articulation is key, and you should really pay attention to rhythmic motifs (and make sure you make them stick out dynamically).
Have fun with it, it's one of my favorite works and it's also really fun to play. If you have more specific questions I'd be happy to answer :)
