Are you performance? Is this a senior recital? What's next? (Did you do the degree in four years?) Going on for a masters if this is a bachelors? Same school, different school? (Sound like MSOM from the previous reply.)
Yeah performance major, senior recital, finishing in four years, going for my masters. I might try and get a doublt masters in pedagogue (Is that a thing?) I need to see what classes I need to take though
I
really wanted to go to MSM but they wanted me to pay 67 grand a year so I was like NOPE not happening. U of I is also out of the question because they gave me ZERO dollars as well. I got a scholarship covering most of my tuition at Depaul so I'm gonna go there. It's nice cause I'll be close to my parents and in Chicago so it's good for like... Music stuff.
Out of all the places I've visited and auditioned at, ironically U of I has BY FAR the best practice rooms, the most practice rooms, the BEST pianos, the most pianos (practice and performance), and BY FAR the best concert halls. Like seriously the facitilies were WAY better than CCM, Depaul (okay maybe the pianos are comparable) MSM (It's right next to the projects lol), Northwestern (didn't even pass prescreening), and Eastman (I didn't audition there but I visited).
However there's one
two really but I'll maybe get to that later black marks I give to U if I...
IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE Dude we have all this NICE FANCY stuff but we're in such a lifeless music community! Literally Krannert (big concert hall venue) has one of the most acoustically perfect concert halls ON THE PLANET
The CSO used to record there but is surrounded by corn fields and nothingness! There's NOTHING going on down here. No competitions, no festivals, no masterclasses, no performance opportunities, no jobs
So because of the lack of opportunities, It kinda saps out your motivation to do well unless you have a jury or recital coming up. In the beginning of the semester the practice hallways aren't too crowded but at the end of the semester when juries and recitals are coming up, the sign up sheets fill A LOT faster hahaha.
So I think it's good that I go to school in a big city where there's actually an existing functioning music community
