Not Piano but kind of Close

Not sure if this is the correct board for this but going to ask here.

At the end of the year I plan to take up a new instrument. I'm thinking a string instrument, probably violin or cello.

Which of these is likely to be more comfortable to trainsition to? Also which is going to be cheapest to have a student instrument? Prefer answers from experienced instrumentalists.

I played both the violin and cello as a junior high/high school student, having started piano first. I would not consider one or the other 'to be easier to transition to' following learning the piano first.

In terms of cost of a student instrument, my guess would be the violin would be less expensive but I would look online and at the used market to check that assumption.

why don't you learn the one that you would prefer playing?
