Margaret Kitchin

I have just launched a new website dedicated to the memory of the British pianist Margaret Kitchin, who premiered many contemporary works in the 1950s-70s.

The repertoire list is certainly not complete as I'm missing many performances, particularly from the 1950s. There are also 76 BBC broadcasts for which we lack any knowledge of the works Margaret played. I would be delighted if anyone can help fill in the gaps, or indeed provide any other material for possible use on the website.

I remember her well as a contemporary music 'fixture' from that era - the extraordinary time when William Glock was in charge of music at the BBC. How many pianists these days have a repertoire encompassing (at least) 184 composers? (my quick count of your incomplete list). What's striking in that list is not only her appetite for taking on anything and everything new, but also her exploration of unfashionable earlier byways - Reger, for instance. She must also have had Ogdonesque sight-reading powers.
