Which piece?
on: January 11, 2018, 04:15:01 PM
Which of these pieces should I play, and how would you rate them in terms of difficulty? Some of the pieces I have played before include: Estampes complete, Chopin first ballade, Beethoven Op 26 and Op 90, Schubert impromptu in b flat major Op 143 no 3, Bach prelude and fugue in E major book 2, Chopin Barcarolle, Chopin Op 10 no 3 and Op 10 no 5, Italian Concerto and some more.... So the pieces I choose between are Schumann Kreisleriana, his Fantasiestucke op 12, Chopin Polonaise-Fantaisie, Schubert G major sonata D 894, Beethoven Pastoral sonata Op 28 and Chopin 3rd Scherzo and 2nd ballade... So which piece out of these would be most suitable you think? And how would you rank them in difficulty? I especially wonder about Schumann Kreisleriana and Fantasiestücke... since I haven't played much Schumann before...

Do the Schumann Op. 12. I played Aufschwung from that set, and it was really fun. It seems like you have plenty of late-classical (Beethoven and Schubert), and Chopin as well. I would go with the Schumann. I haven't played the Kreisleriana, though I have heard it, and very much enjoyed it.
