Hello, mi name is Carlos Rueda. I always love the music but I never started to play any instrument. Do you think that I could start to play piano first? Or, there are some skills that I should have learned before? I´m 23 and able to dedicate to the music. -sorry for the english-

i think the piano is the best instrument to start with. if there is one thing i've learned from taking piano lessons after a long break, anything is possible with practice. you just have to be patient. it's never too late! as long as you have the time to put into.
good luck!

maybe it's too late for making it as concert-pianist (though i'm not too sure about that either), but it's definitely never too late to start playing for the love of music.
enjoy!

Nice to meet you, Carlos. I started at 35, and currently studying my 6th year. Piano playing keeps as the more special thing I do in my life. I wish I had started at your age. For being succesful you will need several things, but according to my experience the main ones are:
i) As stated before, love for music.
ii) A piano available.
iii) A piano teacher.
iv) At least an hour to practice, daily.
v) To know what kind of repertory you want to learn.
There is a lot of students learning piano on their own, I guess succesfully, but only a good teacher could prevent you of doing wrongly a lot of things, adquiring bad habits, and so wasting precious time.
As you have realised yourself, this forum is rich in ideas and advise from experienced ang generous piano lovers. Visit also

Good luck!

Hi Carlos. Yes the piano is a fine thing to start with. For one, unlike other instruments, you don't need an accompanist to be able to play melody with accopaniment. Such a huge range of pieces to choose from. Hmm try to get hold of more CDs/recordings to listen to.. It can be real inspiring to listen to the good ones. Have a great learning experience then =)
