What does this remind you of??

Every time I plug anything into my laptop, this little melody plays. Every time I hear, it really reminds me of something! I've now worked out what it is.

I thought it would be fun for PS members to have a guess themselves. Does this sound like a piece of music you know? I'd be interested to see if it's just me.

Here are your initial clues:
- it's a piano piece  
- it's the fourth movement of something

In case anybody does guess it, I'll be thinking up a suitable prize... If nobody gets it, I'll stop overthinking my laptop's noises.

N.B. The first thing you'll hear is the grating sound of something being plugged in, and then you might need to turn your volume high to hear the 4 notes clearly!

Well, you won't get any guesses from me. I've heard those notes before and nothing has ever triggered, so I doubt I've heard or come across the piece.

I don't think anyone's going to get it now, but I was thinking of the opening of this...

You will always think of Rigaudon when you hear that sound now

No... not really. I presume you mean the opening notes of the Rigaudon???

If so, then absolutely not. The first 4 notes of the rigaudon melody are A G A G'

The Windows melody is C A F E'

Nothing alike.

I agree - they're obviously not the same notes or even intervals! I just always find myself hearing the next few notes of Rigaudon because the opening, though not identical, has a vaguely similar rhythm and shape - it reminds me of it

These things can be quite annoying...I have a water boiler with 3 loud beeps when it finishes and they are the exact same rhythm and tempo than the first three (repeated) notes of Scarlatti K322 that I practiced last year...every time I boil water now that piece starts playing in my head...

The sound my Skype account makes when I end a call is just like the start of a Haydn string quartet I've been studying. I hear it every time!
