Haters...AT CHURCH?
on: February 15, 2018, 11:30:00 AM
Hey guys! I havent posted in quite a while but i just wanted to tell you about a certain hater of mine...  I have learned not to let this stuff bother me.. i just find this hilarious.
The story began Five years ago when i joined a praise band a friend of mine was playing in.  They already had a keyboard player so i was happy just to sing, play guitar, or percussion and have fun.    Well that lasted until one Sunday when the keys guy couldnt make it and i was asked to fill in.  The following rehearsal the music minister told mr. Keyz he was needed in the sound booth and i would take over the piano "for a while.". Needless to say he didnt like that at all and gave me a VERY unChristian go to hell glare as he sulked away.  Well the guy went to the sound booth and did everything he could to srew with me.  He would change the volume in my monitor...cut the sound on my keyboard...and my mic...he did this repeatedly until he was caught and taken out of the booth a few weeks later.  That was five years ago, and i have run into this guy maybe 3 times since then. Well last week mr keyz was at the music store trying to recruit players for the praise band he is now directing at another church...(yikes)...and  someone joked about the "soundbooth scandal"    he went into a ten minute rant about me...  he said i poisoned the directors mind against him...and accused me of basically sleeping with this guy just so i could steal away his spot in this little praise band i was volunteering in, instead of taking a proper, paying, gig.  He must have forgotten that my then husband was standing next to me playing guitar every week, which would have made it rather difficult to sneak into the narthex and bone the director as the preachr is giving his sermon...what is so ironic is that Mr. Keyz is also a LAY MINISTER!   I have had some haters in my life...but this guy!  Lol. Why cant he just accept that i am a better player?  Seriously! Still pissed after five years? Really.

This sounds like it could be an episode for Seinfeld.  Kind of reminds me of "the pool guy episode".

Most churches can tell a story or two like this.

One of the reasons I like mine is that we're thankfully mostly free of that political stuff, at least in the music areas.  I don't poke my nose in the other areas much so I can't be sure, but we're a pretty congenial crowd.

Your music minister erred in addressing this.  He should have been up front instead of sneaky - sat down with the two of you and had an honest conversation about how to best use your respective skills.  "We need you in the sound booth" didn't fool anybody, it just led to hard feelings.

Praise and worship bands are not usually the pinnacle of musicianship anyway.  If that guy was less skilled, but highly committed, he might have been "good enough."  I ran one for a couple years because they needed me, and the effort it took to find music that wasn't utter crap was huge.

When they first invited me, I was playing organ.  The current leader approached me after a service and asked somewhat pompously, "do you play piano as well?"

How do you respond to that?  When they lob a softball, hit it out of the park even if it's church.

I replied, "No, actually I play piano as badly."  Bah-dum-pah!

DCSTUDIO,  Hi.  I did not mean to make light of your situation.  Sometimes looking at things from a comical point of view can help.  Sometimes I think the writers of Seinfeld are perhaps the greatest of all philosophers.  There are a lot of crazy people out there that can hold an unfounded grudge for years.  I hope all is going well for you otherwise.

Anybody who has been to Church should know, those Lay Ministers are just trying to get laid. And praise God for it

I'd just walk up to him and curse him out in front of everyone that'll get him to stop

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
