The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more

mordents above and below diads
on: February 19, 2018, 01:45:48 AM
Dear fleet fingered fanciers of Fidelio and Florestan:

I am working on Menuet and Trio in B minor from French Suite 3 by JSB.
In measures 37 and 38 of my score, (RCM Grade 8 repertoire 2015 edition), there are two different 2 note chords. (diads?)
One has a mordent above the notes, one has a mordent below the notes.
Does that mean that I should execute the mordent on the upper note in the first case and on the lower note in the second case?
Any light you could shine would be much appreciated.

Peace.
