Orchestra Part Only Sans Piano
on: February 22, 2018, 12:38:36 AM
Folks,
Where can we get the orchestra part only so we can practice?

Chopin concertos
Mozart concertos
And others

I have been looking for these as well, specifically for Beethoven's 3rd piano concerto. My brother, who is playing the Mozart 21, found this to practice with, but there doesn't seem to be much more where it came from.
Practicing:
Bach Chromatic Fantasie and Fugue
Beethoven Sonata Op. 10 No. 1
Shostakovich Preludes Op. 34
Scriabin Etude Op. 2 No. 1
Liszt Fantasie and Fugue on BACH

For Chopin, IMSLP. Mikuli and Kullak have piano reductions of the concerti.

If you are asking where you can find recordings of the orchestra part only (instead of the score) then a search for "Music Minus One" on halleonard.com (with classical only checked) such as this link: https://www.halleonard.com/search/search.action?subsiteid=63&keywords=Music+Minus+One&x=5&y=13&searchcategory=11 will help you find what you need.

I mixed the piano solo part to a Mozart piano concerto using a Music Minus One recording from that site:

Of course, I'm an idiot. Anyways I'd like to know too since I'm also working on a concerto.

I can do a mockup in Sibelius, but it'll be pretty metronomic if you guys don't mind

I sometimes will just input pieces into Sibelius so that I can (gasp) mess around with them to see why the composer didn't pick something else as part of my studies. If anyone wants to play any of the Rachmaninoff concertos, I'd love to do those.

Anyone playing Mozart 20? I've been meaning to input it into Sibelius soon, so I could just delete the piano part and everyone's happy.
I am trying to become Franz Liszt. Trying. And failing.

xdjuicebox, I would appreciate a real Sibelius mockup of the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No 2 in D minor, Op 40, https://imslp.org/wiki/Piano_Concerto_No.2,_Op.40_(Mendelssohn,_Felix) (a rarely played piece) which isn't available currently as a Music Minus One recording or a MIDI file as far as I can tell. You can leave the piano part in (I will delete it when needed).

By the way, I know of two other resources for "orchestra only" recordings: https://tonicchord.com/ (expensive, probably because of the work done to beat map the recordings to the tempos of real performances) and https://timewarptech.com/midi_arranger/sick-stella/ (interesting because these MIDI files can be used in software that tries to follow your tempo as you play along).

First, I am going to be rather harsh because those who post as "Visitor" are University Piano Faculty who would have a Senior Diaper Incident if there actual names were ever revealed.  To date, I have NEVER been personally trolled by using my real name in my posts.

GROW UP!

Next, as referenced in another post, "Music Minus One," is a bad joke.  If you (or anyone else) does not have an audio technician to adjust ("at will") the tempo of any particular passage of any Piano Concerto when one needs to  ("Stop and Start"), then it is useless.

Believe it or not, according to Earl Wild's Memoir, in the old days the Conductor on any particular recording project would get the (usually BBC Studio) to record everything in separate parts, and then piece it together.

Can I just point out that visitor's signature is a link to his YouTube channel, including videos of his performances: he is clearly not trying to hide behind a smoke screen. A username is a personal choice - visitor's is lovely and ironic :)

I’m glad visitor is “visiting” this forum.... he is always respectful,  helpful, and knowledgeable....traits that Louis should try to emulate.

I think I'll do this one first (I'm studying Beethoven right now, after all), but it might take me a while...hope that doesn't discourage you!
