solution to beginner/professional issue? [Bob asks]
on: January 20, 2005, 04:26:53 AM
I've heard a few people suggest a beginners board or a professional board.  I think simple is good, esp after looking at pw forums -- way too much clutter there.

In the repertoire board, you can have beginning, intermediate, and professional level questions.  One topic, many levels.

It might help if we were able to "brand" our threads with what we consider the level of the thread.  I see the "Message icon" box up there.  It could be something as simple as that.

We could even give ourself a similar title -- beginner, intermediate, professional, college or whatever.

Then a viewer could easily scan down through the threads and see what a beginner posted or what a professional posted.  Bernhard would have his own category, of course. :)

Sure, somebody would abuse this, but it's pretty easy to spot the people that aren't telling the truth about things.

It would change your perspective a little if you notice all the responses are from beginners or if all the replies were from professionals, wouldn't it?  I mean if Bernhard replies, that's different than if a newby with 10 posts and typos replies, right?  Yes, it depends what they say, but it's a pretty good guide for judging the quality of the response.

Just a thought.

I honestly don't see the point of this at all. A person's comments/suggestions/advice should be given as much weight as the posts themselves. I've seen many non-professional people here offer very good advice, and I've seen questionable advice by so-called professional (teachers performers) here.

The posts should stand on their own merits. People here can figure it out.
